About
50 animals in sanctuary for life with food, shelter, care: 22 equines, 10 dogs, 15 cats,1 pig, deer, geese, wait list for 2 horses.
Our horses have come from Mobile, Birmingham, Tuscaloosa, Clanton; two came from Arlington, Virginia, three were born in Washington State and transported here. Our wait list includes 2 in Virginia retired from service at Arlington National Cemetery.
2 military working equines from the US Army, Hank and Lincoln, retired to Alabama in our care 2023. Hank served as caparisoned (riderless) horse in the full military honors funeral of Gen. Colin Powell. We also presented Hank the Tank in the National Veterans Day Parade (BHM) two years, plus he served at the Alabama National Cemetery for the funeral of Col. Bob Barefield.

Compassion Ranch and Institute is a 501 c3 charitable and public service entity with 3 programs:
- Compassion Ranch provides shelter and care for animals plus helps students develop character traits courage, patriotism, and compassion.
- Life Leaders Institute presented public seminars monthly for 25 years and continues to coach and instruct students in personal leadership and developing work ethic.
- Patriotism in Action publishes cards for America's Veterans Day Started in Alabama, Riderless Horse, and the Pledge of Allegiance, plus supports Hank in patriotic events, and provides web sites with free resources at PatriotismInAction.us and VeteransDayFoundingEducation.us. We designed and donated the parade banner above with funding from the Goodrich Foundation. Other foundations supporting over the years include Caring Foundation of Blue Cross and Blue Shield, Alabama Power Foundation, Daniel Foundation....
