At Sinking Creek Kennels, we train dogs for real-world performance — not just commands, but control, confidence, and consistency when it matters most.

We work with all breeds for obedience, building a foundation that carries into every environment. But our specialty — and what sets us apart — is gun dog and retriever training built for duck hunting and hunt tests.

Our gun dog program develops every stage of a finished retriever:
• Steady to shot — no breaking, no chaos when birds fall
• Marking — tracking and remembering multiple falls with precision
• Blind retrieves — handling dogs with confidence when they didn’t see the bird go down
• Force fetch & delivery — clean, reliable retrieves to hand every time
• Water work — entries, exits, and swimming with purpose in real hunting conditions
• Decoy & blind manners — calm, quiet, and controlled in the duck blind

We don’t train in a vacuum — we train for the duck woods, flooded timber, open water, and real hunting pressure. The goal is simple: a dog that performs just as well on a cold morning in the blind as it does on test day.

Sinking Creek Kennels features a large indoor training facility with spacious runs, providing a safe, structured environment year-round. We live onsite, and the dogs and entire property are monitored by cameras at all times, ensuring consistent care and security. Situated on over 200 acres in Florence on the Tennessee state line, our property allows dogs to train across diverse, real-world terrain.

Our program also prepares dogs for American Kennel Club and Hunting Retriever Club hunt tests, with proven success at the Master National Retriever Club Hunt Test and strong AKC results — backing our reputation as one of the top gun dog trainers in North Alabama.
