About
The Country Cattery: Who We Are
At The Country Cattery, we are a passionate group of ladies who have come together with a common calling - to save the lives of cats and kittens in Alabama. As a 501(c)(3) non-profit cat rescue organization, we are dedicated to the mission of saving the cats of Central Alabama.
Our Mission
Our mission is to rescue and safeguard the lives of as many felines as possible, while upholding the utmost standard of care and well-being for all the cats in our charge..
Helping Abandoned, Neglected, and Abused Cats
We work tirelessly to help abandoned, neglected, and abused community cats and kittens. These animals are often left to fend for themselves, facing hunger, illness, and danger on a daily basis. We believe that every cat deserves a safe and loving home, and we are committed to making that a reality for as many cats as possible.
Providing Vet Care
One of the most important aspects of our work at The Country Cattery is providing vet care to the cats and kittens in our care. Many of these animals come to us in need of medical attention, whether it be for injuries, illnesses, or simply routine vaccinations and spaying/neutering. We work closely with local veterinarians to ensure that each cat receives the care they need to thrive.
Adopting Cats into Loving Homes
Once a cat or kitten has received the necessary vet care, we focus on finding them loving forever homes. We carefully screen potential adopters to ensure that each cat is placed in a safe and nurturing environment. We believe that every cat deserves a family to call their own, and we are dedicated to making that happen for each and every cat that comes through our doors.
Our Programs
Pawsitive Impact Project, our TNR program, includes low cost spay/neuter for low income families. There are untold numbers of kittens born each year that either end up in shelters where they can either contract deadly diseases or they are euthanized due to space if not pulled by a rescue organization. There are even more that are born to an unspayed female that will perish or simply add to the explosion of unaltered cats on the streets.
While PIP won’t eliminate this tragedy by any means While PIP won’t eliminate this tragedy by any means, we hope that we do make an impact where we can. We currently provide TNR services in the following counties: Chilton, Jefferson, Shelby, St. Clair and Walker.
Purrs for Seniors is our companionship program for people over 62. We will provide a senior cat who is fully vetted, litterbox, scooper, food and water bowls, a bag of litter and a bag of food (to get them started) to approved seniors at NO CHARGE! Why are we offering Purrs for Seniors?
It’s no secret that the furry friends we call “pets” can bring joy and meaning to their owners’ lives. While many people enjoy having pets for this reason alone, studies have shown that pets can improve the health of their owners in multiple ways, especially for seniors. Loneliness and boredom can be two factors seniors face in daily life. Having the opportunity to bond with a cat and enjoy that companionship may make a huge difference in a senior’s outlook and enjoyment. Studies indicate that living with a pet can help lower both blood pressure and cholesterol. Seniors living independently with pets have better physical and mental health than those without pets. Whether it’s cleaning the litter box, feeding, grooming or playing, most pets force their owners to stay active while caring for them. This exercise can help seniors fight obesity and other health problems. Pets also improve health by reducing the side effects of stress in their owners’ lives. There is nothing more soothing and relaxing than petting a purring cat!
