Alabama Shakes, Back on Home Turf!

Alabama Shakes, Back on Home Turf!

You ever hear a song you haven’t played in years and suddenly remember every word? That sums up the music from the Alabama Shakes! And after nearly a decade off the stage, they’re coming back—bluesy, bold, and playing Birmingham on July 26.

The show lands at the Coca-Cola Amphitheater, and tickets are already moving. Brittany Howard and the crew have new music on deck and a setlist that’ll hit every part of your memory.

The Show That’s Bringing It All Back

You’ll be outside, under the lights, surrounded by people who came to feel something loud. It might be hot, might rain, might not matter at all! You’ll be too busy belting out “Gimme All Your Love” with 5,000 other people who still know every word, even after so long!

Not Just a Nostalgia Tour

If you were around Athens 10 or 15 years ago, there’s a chance you saw Alabama Shakes before anyone knew their name. Maybe it was a bar gig, maybe somebody’s cousin’s backyard. They were loud, raw, and really good—even then.

A few years later, they’re winning Grammys and topping the charts. Their Sound & Color album hit number one, frontwoman Brittany Howard’s voice was everywhere, and that scrappy local band was suddenly playing every late-night show on TV. Brittany’s been off doing her solo thing for a while, but the band never really stopped talking about what it would feel like to get back in the groove.

Now they’re writing new music, booking big venues, and picking up right where they left off. If you missed them the first time, this is your chance to fix that!

More Tunes, Less Waiting

The Shakes are saving their Alabama stop for summer, but there’s still plenty to catch in the meantime. April’s lineup is full of soulful, rootsy shows—whether you’re into laid-back acoustic sets, indie rock, or blues that makes your beer taste better. Here’s what’s coming up:

Also: It’s Jazz Appreciation Month, and the Alabama Jazz Hall of Fame is worth a visit—especially if you grew up hearing Sun Ra or Dinah Washington but never got the full story.
