Blue Skies, Blueberries, & Fun!
Some festivals celebrate music. Others celebrate history. Brewton dedicates an entire day to blueberries, and judging by the crowds that show up for the Alabama Blueberry Festival each year, that's a decision nobody seems interested in questioning. The tradition continues this year on June 20.
Organized by the Greater Brewton Area Chamber of Commerce, the Alabama Blueberry Festival turns Jennings Park into a full-scale community gathering. Fresh blueberries take center stage, of course, but the festival offers far more than produce. Arts and crafts vendors line the grounds, live entertainment keeps the energy high throughout the day, and an antique and classic car show ensures there's always something worth stopping to check out.
The Sweetest Shopping Trip of the Summer
Part of the festival's appeal is that no two visitors experience it quite the same way. Some arrive with a shopping list and leave carrying blueberry bushes for the backyard. Others make a beeline for the food court, where blueberry ice cream, blueberry cobbler, and blueberry crunch compete for attention alongside classic festival favorites.
You'll also find plenty of opportunities to browse handcrafted goods from original arts and crafts vendors, pick up an official festival T-shirt, or simply spend an afternoon catching up with neighbors under the shade of the park's trees.
In a season filled with events that seem designed around screens, schedules, and reservations, the Alabama Blueberry Festival remains refreshingly straightforward. Show up, grab something sweet, and see where the day takes you!
A Festival Built for Families
Parents won't have to work hard to keep younger visitors entertained. The festival's free children's section includes inflatables, obstacle-course activities, and other kid-friendly attractions that can easily occupy an afternoon.
That family-friendly atmosphere is part of what has helped the event become a fixture on the community calendar. The festival celebrates an agricultural crop, but it also showcases something equally important: the role small-town gatherings continue to play across Alabama. They're places where local businesses, farmers, artists, and families all end up sharing the same space.
On June 20, Jennings Park won't just be celebrating blueberries. It'll be celebrating Brewton itself, one scoop, slice, and basket at a time!
