Find Your Next Favorite Pour

April 7 is National Beer Day, and thanks to Alabama’s growing craft scene, it’s landing with a little extra fizz this year! Across the state, breweries are pouring fresh batches, lining up live music, and giving you plenty of reasons to turn a regular Tuesday into a well-planned crawl from one stop to the next.

In Decatur, Cross-Eyed Owl Brewing Company holds it down as the city’s oldest and only brewery, pouring easygoing pints in a taproom where dogs are welcome and conversations tend to stretch longer than expected. It’s the kind of place where one beer turns into two because you’re mid-story and nobody’s in a rush to wrap it up.

Down in the Wiregrass, Folklore Brewing & Meadery brings a different kind of energy, one that feels a little more open, a little more unhurried. You’ll find live music in the mix, plenty of room to spread out, and a lineup that makes it easy to settle in and stay awhile without overthinking what to order next.

In Montgomery, Common Bond Brewers anchors its downtown footprint with a polished but welcoming taproom framed by brick and beam. The beer list moves comfortably between European traditions and American styles, so whether you’re sticking with something crisp or branching out, you’re covered.

Up in Cullman, Goat Island Brewing rounds things out with an award-winning lineup that keeps things lively from first pour to last call. From clean, refreshing pilsners to hop-forward IPAs, it’s the kind of range that makes “just one” a tough sell.

Pace Yourself, Not Your Good Time

If you’re mapping out April 7, a little game plan goes a long way:

  • Start earlier than you think so you’re not cramming everything into the evening.
  • Split pours or go smaller so you can try more without tapping out too soon.
  • Check for live music or events and build your stops around what’s happening.
  • Line up a safe ride so you can focus on what’s in your glass, not how you’re getting home.

National Beer Day might be the reason to start, but it doesn’t have to be where the fun stops. Plan a couple of stops or go all in and make a day of it. Either way, there’s a cold glass waiting somewhere along the route, and it’s probably got your name on it!
