Hope, Help and Bargain Stores With a Purpose
Hardship has a way of showing up without making an appointment. One week, the fridge is empty. The next, rent is behind, recovery feels fragile, or there is no safe place to sleep. For more than 40 years, Christian Mission Centers, Inc. has been answering those moments across the Wiregrass with something more useful than a pamphlet and a polite nod. Serving Coffee, Geneva and now Pike County, the organization has grown from emergency help into a full network of free services focused on recovery, food, benevolence, shelter, health care and hope.
What makes Christian Mission stand out is how connected the work is. This is not one ministry trying to do one good thing in one corner. It is many ministries working together, meeting people physically, emotionally and spiritually. The New Life Recovery Program provides housing and support for up to 58 men and women in recovery and aftercare. The emergency and transitional shelter currently houses up to 12 people, with plans to add 12 more beds in the coming year. Through its food ministry, benevolence office, community clinic and support programs, Christian Mission meets real needs with real follow-through.
And then there are the bargain stores, which might be the most cheerful reminder that doing good can be practical, local and surprisingly affordable. Shoppers at the stores in Enterprise, Geneva, Elba and Troy are not just hunting for a deal. They are helping fund meals, beds, recovery, family assistance and second chances. “The Good We Do Today Becomes The Happieness Of Tomorrow” is more than a slogan here. It is the operating plan. Their 2026 Best of Alabama Award feels earned because Christian Mission Centers keeps showing up for people who need someone to show up. Imperfect people serving a perfect God, and reminding the forgotten they are loved, valued and never alone.
