On August 15-16, Russellville—AKA “The Watermelon Capital of Alabama” —is coming alive for the Franklin County Watermelon Festival, a celebration of everyone's favorite summer treat. With live music, quirky contests, and more, there’s a slice of fun for the whole family!
A watermelon-themed 5K and fun run kick things off for early risers, followed by a classic car and truck show, a watermelon pageant, and contests for the biggest, most unusual, and best-dressed melons. And yes—there will be a seed-spitting competition, because what’s summer in Alabama without a little friendly, fruit-fueled rivalry?
Not a huge watermelon fan? There’ll be plenty of other snacks available to sink your teeth into, including summer fair staples like funnel cakes, lemonade, and more.
