Rocket City Brewed for Liftoff
You already know Huntsville knows how to launch rockets. But weekend plans? That’s where the local beer scene steps in—and it’s just as impressive. Patios are filling up, live music’s back, and the pours? Out of this world. Whether you're IPA-loyal or just here for the seasonal sours, Rocket City’s taprooms are ready for takeoff.
Best part? You don’t need a rocket ship to get there.
Yellowhammer Brewing: Old World Style, Southern Swagger
In 2010, four Huntsville guys set out to bring better beer to Alabama. Mission accomplished. Yellowhammer’s now a Campus 805 anchor, serving up European-inspired brews with a Southern drawl. Highlights include:
- A cozy Bierhall steps from Earth & Stone Pizza
- House cocktails and shooters like the Moonshot (yep—vodka and Tang)
- Private event spaces with roll-up garage doors and patio access
What to sip:
- Cheatin’ Heart IPA – tropical and bold
- T-Minus Kölsch – citrusy, clean, spring in a glass
- Yellowhammer Gold – classic, crisp lager
- Mercury Single Malt or Gemini Bourbon – crafted on-site
This weekend:
- Ben Luthy (Live Music) – Friday, April 18, 7–10pm
- Duos Locos (Live Music) – Saturday, April 19, 5–8pm
- Disney Music Bingo – Saturday, April 19, 9pm
Straight to Ale: Big Beers, Big Personalities
Next door—literally—Straight to Ale is another Campus 805. This former retired middle school is now a beer-fueled playground and is one of Bama's largest production breweries. Since 2009, they’ve scaled up big time, with:
- 40+ taps and a full line of house-distilled spirits
- Ale’s Kitchen: wings, tacos, ribs, repeat
- Lipz Lounge karaoke, a secret speakeasy for karaoke parties!
- Free brewery tours every Saturday at 3pm (with beer samples, obviously)BOA-Huntsville-FinalPro…
What to try:
- Monkeynaut IPA – a hoppy local legend
- Stout at the Devil – dark, rich, slightly wicked
- Chill Pils – crisp, clean, low drama
- Juicy Bunny Pale Ale – hazy, hoppy, ridiculously juicy
Their beers are everywhere—The Nook, Pourhouse, Whole Foods, and probably even your corner gas station. Grab a six-pack with your snacks. No shame.
More Than Just a Pretty Pint
Huntsville’s brewery scene isn’t just about beer. It’s about revival—of spaces, neighborhoods, and community. These breweries and many more are making old buildings cool again, hiring local, hosting events, and giving this high-tech town a laid-back heartbeat.
