This veteran-owned, family-run school gives kids, teens, adults, beginners, competitors, and entire families a place to train with purpose instead of simply burning off steam. With Jiu Jitsu classes for ages 4 and up, wrestling, adult Jiu Jitsu and striking, Littles classes for ages 4–7, Bigs classes for ages 8–15, and a homeschool semester option, Lighthouse is built around one clear idea: strong people make strong communities.
That mission starts with founder Kyle Atkinson, whose background includes decades of military service, competitive Jiu Jitsu and mixed martial arts, and a Bachelor of Science in Sports and Health Sciences. Translation: this is not a “watch a few videos and open a gym” situation. Lighthouse was a lifelong dream, opened in 2025 and shaped by the belief that consistency beats talent and growth usually shows up right after discomfort does. The instruction is calm, direct, and focused on safety, mastery, and respect. All instructors are CPR-certified and SafeSport certified, which matters when families are trusting a school with their kids, their confidence, and their Saturday energy.
The name carries meaning, too. Inspired by a family maiden name, Lighthouse reflects the idea of helping people recognize threats, find safe passage, and move through life with more confidence. On the mat, that looks like discipline, resilience, character, and a team that pushes one another without losing the family-first feel. Add in weights, sauna, and cold plunge options, and the school becomes more than a place to train. It becomes a place to show up, get better, and grow stronger together.
