The Art Side of the Moon
Downtown Scottsboro gets a creative takeover on September 19, when the Full Moon Art Fest brings nine hours of local art, live music, food and family fun to the heart of town.
The Full Moon Art Fest runs from 9 a.m. to 6 p.m., giving visitors plenty of time to browse work from artists and authors, grab lunch from a food truck and settle in for a steady lineup of live entertainment.
Hosted by the Art Society of Jackson County, the festival fits neatly into the organization’s larger mission of supporting local artists and creating more opportunities for their work to be seen around the community.
Art With a Soundtrack
The festival schedule starts at 9 a.m. with Mustang String Band, followed by Kudzu StoryCatchers at 10:15 and The Alley Katz at 11:30.
Judy Nicole Kirby takes the stage at 1 p.m., Radar Mars follows at 2:30, and the Jess Goggans Band closes the day with a two-hour set from 4 to 6 p.m.
That pace leaves enough breathing room to actually look around between performances, which is fortunate because the art is the point.
The 2026 vendor lineup brings regional creators into downtown Scottsboro with original work and handmade pieces, while authors add a literary side to the mix. A kids fun zone gives younger festivalgoers their own place to burn some energy, and food trucks make it entirely reasonable to stay for most of the day.
A Good Day to Wander
Full Moon Art Fest works because it gives people a reason to slow down downtown instead of simply passing through it. A painting, handmade piece or book comes with the chance to meet the person who created it, while the live music turns the streets into something closer to an outdoor neighborhood gathering.
For the Art Society of Jackson County, that community connection is part of the larger work. The organization supports area artists through events, exhibitions and an annual grant program, helping local creative work find an audience beyond the studio.
By late afternoon, after several bands, a few laps through the artist booths and whatever looked best at the food trucks, fall may not technically have arrived yet. Scottsboro will have given it a colorful welcome anyway.
